Electronic Rodent Repeller
With rodents always being a problem in all residential areas of the world, it is not quite surprising that new methods like the electronic rodent repeller are constantly being evolved for pest control. The electronic rodent repeller, as the name suggests, is a constant electronic method to keep several rodent species like rat, mouse, mole and raccoon away from homes and it is also supposed to work on other pest species such as roach and lizard and even termites. It works on the ultrasound principle. Let us briefly understand how this device works for you when you want to repel rats and other rodents and pests, in a nontechnical manner.
The human ear is capable of hearing sound within the range of 20 to 20,000 Hz. However, rodents and several other creatures are capable of hearing a much higher wavelength of sound. The electronic ultrasound rodent repeller works on this principle. It produces high frequency sounds that are not discernible to humans but are picked up by rodents, creating an intolerable living condition for them. Out of sheer fright or because it is too inconvenient for them to live in an environment that is too noisy for them, the creatures move out from the area.
Conceptually, the electronic pest repeller works. But there are some criticisms for the method. Firstly, people who have used these repellers state that the device, even if it works, has only temporary effects. The rats may return later on. However, using the device continuously can solve this problem. Also, there is problem in the device's efficiency when the area has a lot of moisture, such as most houses in Orlando are. Water can absorb the sound frequency to an extent. The same kind of effect can be shown by the bark of a tree present in the near surroundings.
Another practical difficulty that users of the electronic rodent repeller have faced is that the rats or other creatures run over to the roof where the ultrasound cannot disturb them. A solution would be to install one of these devices on the roof too. The benefit here is that it could deter other nuisance species from roosting on the roofs such as pigeon and bat, but it would increase costs. It is advised to use one ultrasound device on each floor of the house to have maximum effects. Also since dogs are highly sensitive to ultrasound, these devices would be unsuitable in homes where there are pet dogs or even other species of pet animals. However, there are benefits too. The method does not kill any of the pests, only drives them away from the source. In that way it is a humane method, provided that there are no other pets at home that could be distressed with these devices. People are still figuring out the effectiveness of the electronic rodent repeller. Some users claim that the devices really do work, some say they work but the rodents come back while some say they don't work at all. There are mixed reactions and it will be a while before researches are made for their worthiness and their results to be made public.
